This is what every job in our bay actually goes through — STEK DYNOshield film cut to the millimeter, every edge wrapped into the panel gap, hand-checked before you pick it up. On a Full Body Boutique like this one, we pull whatever panels we need to get the film wrapped edge-in, reassemble, then ceramic top-coat over the whole thing. 7–10 days typically, sometimes 14. How much does PPF cost in Shelby Township?+
Our High Impact tier (full hood, bumper, fenders, mirrors, headlights) starts at $2,200. Brand New Car — the most-popular package — adds A-pillars, roof leading edge, door cups, rocker leading edges, and ceramic top coat over the film, starting at $4,500. Full Body Boutique wraps every painted panel + ceramic + glass coating, starting at $9,500. Final price scales with vehicle size and panel complexity. Will PPF turn yellow over time?+
Not on STEK DYNOshield. The film is TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), not PVC, so it does not yellow. The 10-year manufacturer warranty explicitly covers yellowing, peeling, bubbling, and cracking — STEK replaces the film if it ever fails on those, and we install the replacement at no charge.
How is PPF different from ceramic coating?+
PPF is a 6 to 8 mil physical urethane film that absorbs the impact of rock chips, road debris, and minor scratches. Ceramic coating is a chemical hardness layer that improves gloss, makes washing easier, and protects against UV and chemical etching — but ceramic does not stop rock chips. The most-asked-for build at Diamond Detailz is PPF on the impact zones plus ceramic over the entire car. Ceramic on top of PPF actually extends the STEK warranty from 10 years to 12 years.
Does PPF stop rock chips completely?+
STEK DYNOshield stops 99% of the chip damage you would otherwise see on bare paint. A direct hit on the leading edge of the film at highway speed can still mark the film itself, but that mark is the film taking the hit instead of your paint. The film is a sacrificial layer — when it does take a hit, the paint underneath is still factory.
How long does a Full Front PPF install take?+
Full Front (the High Impact tier) is a 1 to 2 day appointment depending on vehicle complexity. Brand New Car is 2 to 3 days because we add ceramic top coat and prep more surface. Full Body Boutique is typically 7 to 10 days, sometimes up to 14 on a complex vehicle — we disassemble whatever panels need it to get the film wrapped edge-in. We schedule by appointment so the bay is ready when you arrive.
Will the edges of the PPF show?+
On a properly-installed STEK DYNOshield job, no — we wrap the film over the edge into the panel gap so there is no visible seam. Most shops in Metro Detroit cut kit patterns and tuck the edges 2 to 3 millimeters short of the panel; that looks fine on day one but the film starts lifting at year three. We disassemble panels to get the wrap-edge inside the gap. Look at the macro shots in the Diamond Standard section above.
What does "self-healing" mean for PPF?+
STEK DYNOshield has an elastomeric top coat that returns to its original shape under heat. Light scratches, swirl marks, and minor surface damage heal out with sun warmth or hot water from the hose. Deeper scuffs that go through the top coat will not self-heal, but those would be paint damage on bare paint — the film took the hit instead of your clear coat.
Can PPF be removed cleanly later?+
Yes. STEK DYNOshield removes cleanly even after the full 10-year warranty period, leaving factory paint underneath. Many of our customers pull the film at trade-in time so the dealer sees pristine paint on inspection — the resale bump usually pays for the install. Removal is professional-only; do not try to peel it yourself or you risk lifting clearcoat.
Do I need paint correction before the PPF goes on?+
Sometimes — depends on the paint. Any swirl marks, scratches, or imperfections under the film become permanent because the film locks them in. We inspect every car on intake. Vehicles under 6 months old usually need only a single-stage polish; older cars or cars with hammered paint may need two-step or full multi-step correction. We quote correction separately based on what we find.
Why STEK and not the cheaper PPF options?+
STEK is the highest-clarity, longest-warranty PPF on the market, and DYNOshield is the only line that uses TPU film with a self-healing elastomeric top coat. The 10-year manufacturer warranty (12 years with ceramic on top) is honored only by STEK Authorized Dealers + Certified Installers — Diamond Detailz is both. Cheaper film yellows, peels, and the warranty is not honored if a non-certified installer touches it.
Are you actually STEK certified?+
Yes. Diamond Detailz is a STEK Authorized Dealer and STEK Certified Installer, and a Feynlab Authorized Coating Installer. Both certifications are required to honor the manufacturer warranties — uncertified installers cannot, regardless of how the install looks.
How does PPF affect resale value at trade-in?+
PPF preserves factory paint, which is what dealers grade on the cosmetic-condition adjustment. On a luxury vehicle with chip-prone front end (any Porsche, BMW M, AMG, Cadillac V), preserved factory paint can mean $2,000 to $5,000 in trade-in value vs. a chipped front end. Many of our customers pull the film at trade-in so the dealer sees mint paint underneath — the cost of the install often pays back at the next sale.
